I am in love with this fun gift idea! Kraft notebooks are so easy to letter on and you don’t need fancy supplies to do it! In fact, you could definitely just grab a Sharpie marker or your favorite Micron or Gel pen and have at it!
For these hand-lettered mini notebooks I took it one step further and added a fun paint swatch to 2 of the notebooks first. Check out the full tutorial below for more details!

How to Make Hand Lettered Mini Notebooks
Supplies Needed:
- Mini Notebooks
- Pencil and eraser
- Acrylic or Chalk paint
- Paint brush
- Sharpie Markers
The notebooks I used for this tutorial came in The Inky Box and are Beech Tree Paper notebooks. The pages are blank inside so they make a great little sketchbook!
Start by deciding on a color scheme. I chose black and rose gold for my scheme but any color choices work here.
First start by using a scrap piece of paper to sketch out your designs for each cover. It helps to create a rectangle the same size as the notebooks, and then sketch inside that.
Next, paint a swatch in your color of choice, over the front of the notebook. You can skip this step if you just want to draw right on the notebooks.
Once that’s dry, sketch out the design lightly with a pencil on the cover of each notebook.
Once the sketch is complete how you’d like it, go over it with a Sharpie Marker and gently erase any stray pencil lines. That’s it! It’s so easy to make these hand-lettered mini notebooks and they make a great DIY gift idea!
